The International Journal of Digital Research (IJDR) is pleased to announce the publication of a new research article titled “European Programmes as a Factor for the Ecological Development of Rural Areas in Bulgaria” by Valentin Shlyakov, PhD student at South-West University “Neofit Rilski”.
This study offers a timely and comprehensive analysis of how major European Union programmes — including the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), the LIFE Programme, and Horizon Europe — contribute to improving ecological conditions in Bulgaria’s rural regions. Drawing on official datasets from the European Commission, Eurostat, and Bulgarian ministries, the article highlights key achievements in biodiversity protection, soil conservation, organic farming, climate resilience, and sustainable land-use practices.
The work also identifies persistent challenges such as administrative complexity, uneven regional participation, and limited technical capacity, underscoring the need for stronger local governance and more accessible funding mechanisms.
This publication provides significant value to researchers, policymakers, and practitioners working in the fields of environmental sustainability, rural development, agricultural policy, and EU-funded ecological initiatives.
